Birds Nest for a Modern World
I was offered the opportunity to be part of The Gold Coast city library Artist show case program which provided me with the opportunity to showcase my artwork and become an ‘Artist in residence’ for the month of September 2016 at the Helensvale City Library.
I presented the ‘Birds Nest for a Modern World 2014’, and I demonstrated weaving a basket with data cables every Monday morning for the month of September 2017, I also facilitated my first up cycled children’s workshop.
This was a wonderful opportunity for me to introduce and demonstrate my work and engage with the public; I gained confidence and inspiration as I discussed my work and received positive feedback. I also enjoyed hearing the stories of many people who stopped to chat with me as I weaved.
The up cycled children’s workshop that I facilitated at the end of the residency was a huge success and a wonderful opportunity for me teach an ecological message in a fun stimulating and creative environment by turning repurposed recycled materials into art. I have my Diploma in Children’s services and over the years have work and implemented many art project lesson plans in the childcare environment. To facilitate up cycled workshops is a goal I wanted to achieve and continued into 2017 at the 11th Ave Creative Hub at Palm Beach City Library on a monthly basis.
I thank Anna Smith and the wonderful staff at Helensvale Gold Coast library for this wonderful opportunity, which has inspired me to continue my artistic and creative goals.
