Weaving and Recycled Workshops
Adults and Children
Facilitator -  Ronda Sharpe

I am a Wiradjuri environmental artist who responds creatively within a First Nations cultural context, focusing on Wiradjuri traditions, community and Country. I am drawn to creating contemporary fibre artworks that represent a continuum of Wiradjuri cultural artefacts, Country, language and respect ‘Yindayamarra’ for Mother Earth. I use recycled data and electrical cables and natural grasses, transforming these mediums into sculptural forms that juxtapose modern and traditional weaving techniques.

I have programmed and facilitated various interactive hands-on recycled weaving and recycled art workshop for adults and children that provides the opportunity to create eco-friendly woven and sustainable art projects. The workshops have been hosted for Gold Coast Council creative and artist in residence programs; Home of The Arts (HOTA), Gold Coast and Griffith, College of Arts and Griffith University Art Gallery, Brisbane.

  1. Recycled art workshops are designed to stimulate children’s creative imagination and inspiration by turning repurposed recycled materials into art. The object of the interactive hands-on workshop is to teach children how to create eco-friendly art projects from recycled mediums and provide environmentally sustainable awareness of reducing and reusing waste.

  2. Weaving recycled workshops are designed for weavers of all abilities, participants will be taught traditional and contemporary weaving techniques using a variety of natural fibres and reclaimed materials and guided to produce a woven object to take home. Ronda invites you to experiment with the use of repurposed and natural fibre mediums and engage in the creative weaving circle experience.
